Some 79 patients were included and followed for 12 months. There were seven recurrent hernias diagnosed radiologically in the no mesh group compared to none in the mesh group: relative risk 0.18, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.034 to 0.33, P=0.02. Complication rates were similar in the two groups.
Comment: Sensible use of mesh.
