Thirty-four trials were included with 3779 procedures. The laparoscopic approach reduced hospital stay by a mean of 2.2 days, and wound infections (relative risk 0.29, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.21 to 0.41). The robotic approach took longer by a mean 49 min.
Comment: The laparoscopic approach was a key step change, but is the robot a step too far (and is it affordable)?
