Anders Bergenfelz, MD, PhD, Professor of Surgery

Anders Bergenfelz received his MD from the University of Lund, Sweden. He obtained a PhD in surgery from the same university in 1992 and was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery, Lund University Hospital in 1994 and Professor of Surgery in 2011. During 1997–1998 he worked as a Consultant Surgeon at the Philipp University in Marburg, Germany, and 2000-2003 as a Consultant Surgeon at the University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen. He is Professor emeritus at Lund University and Doctor honoris causa at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Anders Bergenfelz has been President of the European Society of Endocrine Surgery (ESES), and COO of the pan-European database Eurocrine. He was a BJS Editor 2010–2016. His research interests are focused on the surgical treatment of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, simulation-based clinical skills training, and patient safety.

Karoline Horisberger

Karoline Horisberger is a Swiss surgeon who heads colorectal surgery at the University Medical Centre in Mainz (Germany). She is the chair of the German Association of Colo-Proctology (CACP) and a member of the executive committee of the German Society for Coloproctology (DKG).

She is also a co-author of the German guidelines for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and a long-standing faculty member of the GI Davos Course — an international suturing course for young surgeons. Karoline Horisberger is also a member of the Research Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP).

Julio Mayol is Professor of Surgery at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Head of the Colorectal Surgery Section at Hospital Clínico San Carlos, where he also serves as the Scientific Director of the San Carlos Health Research Institute. He is the Dean’s Delegate for Technology and Communication at the UCM School of Medicine. He is also Corresponding Member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain.

Stephen J Wigmore, MD, FRCSEd, FRCPE, FRSE

University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK

Stephen Wigmore is the Regius Chair of Clinical Surgery at the University of Edinburgh. He is also the Surgeon to the King in Scotland, Editor-in-Chief of the HPB journal, Honorary Secretary of the James IV Association of Surgeons and former President of the British Transplantation Society.
