This study compared standard coloanal anastomosis plus ileostomy with the new two stage approach that avoided a stoma in 92 patients. Complications, oncological outcomes and continence scores were similar in the two groups after three-year follow-up.
Comment: Outcomes similar, so patient choice will be important.
