Dis Colon Rectum 2025; 68: 1100-1111.
In this study of 79 adults, haemorrhoidectomy resulted in improved quality-adjusted life years (difference 0.08; 95 per cent confidence interval 0.04 to 0.13) and lower recurrence rates (difference 33.5%, 15.3–51.7 per cent). Hospital and societal costs were higher for haemorrhoidectomy: the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was €24,042 per quality-adjusted life year gained and €5,918 per recurrence avoided.
Comment: Costly, but potentially durable outcomes following haemorrhoidectomy, although small sample size tempers conclusions.
