ESCP EAGLE Safe Anastomosis Collaborative and NIHR Global Health Research Unit in Surgery. Evaluation of a quality improvement intervention to reduce anastomotic leak following right colectomy (EAGLE): pragmatic, batched stepped-wedge, cluster-randomized trial in 64 countries.

The intervention was an online session teaching standard, optimized methods. Overall, there was little reduction in anastomotic leak rates, but in hospitals with high engagement, leak rates reduced from 12.2 to 5.1 per cent, P<0.001.

Comment: Shows what can be achieved with good education and training delivered online.
