Some 358 patients were followed for a median of 41 months, and the groups had similar overall survival (44 versus 39 months, hazard ratio 0.85, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.62 to 1.15, P=0.28). Major 90-day postoperative morbidity was higher after perioperative therapy (36 versus 26 per cent), and major systemic therapy-related toxicity occurred in 57 per cent of those who started treatment.
Comment: Perioperative systemic therapy added toxicity without a survival benefit over surgery alone in this select group.
