Some 184 patients were followed for 36 months, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) was associated with improved locoregional control rate (hazard ration 0.19, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.04 to 0.86; P=0.031) and less peritoneal relapse. Overall survival and disease-free survival were similar between groups.
Comment: Less peritoneal relapse, same survival; insufficient evidence to support routine HIPEC use, and patient selection requires further clarification.
