Some 165 patients were included, and the gluteal turnover flap closure yielded a mean cost reduction of €8 318 (95 per cent confidence interval €928 to €15 709), with lower outpatient, specialized wound, and home care costs at 12 months. No significant difference in quality of life was observed.
Comment: Comparison with other reconstructive techniques (e.g. muscle or omental flaps) is needed to define the relative cost-effectiveness of the gluteal turnover flap.
