Surgical site infection rates were not reduced by the use of a vacuum dressing in this study that included 123 procedures: 15 versus 25 per cent in controls, P=0.34. Vacuum dressings were a nuisance and reduced quality of life.
Comment: Convincing, but wouldn’t this be a great area for within patient randomization, with a different dressing on each groin, to remove the effect of patient factors such as obesity?
