BMJ 2025; 388: e080881.
This three-arm trial that included 481 participants studied amputation-free survival after intervention. Compared with plain balloon angioplasty and bare metal stenting, there was no additional benefit in the use of a drug-coated balloon (hazard ratio 0.84, 97.5 per cent confidence interval 0.61 to 1.16, P=0.22) or drug-eluting stent (0.83, 0.60 to 1.15, P=0.2).
Comment: Last in a series of three mega-trials with a clear and very important message for vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists – keep it simple.
