This double blind RCT included 78 patients with painful neuropathy for over one year. Mean pain scores were reduced after decompression surgery, and to a lesser extent by sham surgery after 12 months compared to controls. The difference between decompressed and sham operated legs was significant at five years, P=0.0002.
Comment: Complex area, and more work needed to determine whether surgery has a role.
