The study included 390 patients for analysis. Use of a drain reduced the need for reoperation within 30 days: 5.1 versus 12.4 per cent, P=0.01. Four patients had drain-related complications.
Comment: Unusual result. Most RCTs suggest for many surgical operations drains increase complications, but for this specific procedure, the outcome is pretty clear.
