Some 3360 patients having cardiac and abdominal surgery were randomized to one of two alcoholic antiseptic solutions for skin cleansing. Surgical site infection rates were similar after povidone iodine (5.1 per cent) and chlorhexidine (5.5 per cent).
Comment: Is the alcohol more important than the antiseptic?
