Arundel C, Mandefield L, Fairhurst C, Baird K, Gkekas A, Saramego P, Chetter I et al, on behalf of the SWHSI-2 Trial Investigators.
Lancet 2025; 405: 1689-1699.
Some 686 patients were included, most of whom were diabetics with open wounds on their feet or legs after vascular surgery. Compared to standard dressings, negative pressure wound dressings did not speed up wound healing: hazard ratio 1.08, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.88 to 1.32, P=0.47.
Comment: Disappointing, since this was one of the indications where vacuum dressings were expected to prove worthwhile.
