Some 256 patients were included and followed for three years; only one patient in each group had recurrent cancer. Quality of life and body weight were similar in both groups. Pylorus preservation improved haemoglobin and protein levels, and reduced the risk of gallstones, but increased reflux oesophagitis and delayed gastric emptying.
Comment: No clear winner, but reassuringly low rates of recurrence, so symptoms important.
