Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group.
Lancet 2025; 406: 603-614.
This analysis included 22,301 women. Allocation to aromatase inhibitor treatment after five years of endocrine therapy reduced recurrence (relative risk 0.71, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.61 to 0.81, P=0.001), but not overall survival (0.90, 0.7 to 1.15, P=0.4). Risk of recurrence was greater in women with node positive disease.
Comment: The best evidence that prolonging hormone therapy reduces recurrence, but disappointingly, not death. Perhaps follow-up needs to be longer for the latter.
