Some 936 children with non-perforated appendicitis were included in this study and followed for twelve months. Antibiotic management was inferior to surgery; treatment failure occurred in 34 per cent of the antibiotic group and 7 per cent after appendicectomy. There were no serious adverse events in either group.
Comment: Large multicentre study that concludes surgery remains the treatment of choice in children.
