Lancet Gastrohepatol 2025; 10: 222-233.
Six RCTs including 2101 patients were analysed. Antibiotic treatment was as safe as surgery; complication rates were 8.3 per cent after surgery and 5.4 per cent after antibiotics. Some 33.9 per cent of the antibiotic group had appendicectomy within one year.
Comment: Antibiotic therapy is a reasonable option, and should be considered in consultation with the affected patient.
