Some 995 women were randomized to standard care or regular monitoring with intervention if invasive cancer diagnosed. After median follow-up of 37 months, more women in the standard care group had undergone surgery (364 versus 264), but a similar number in each group were diagnosed with invasive cancer (5.9 versus 4.2 per cent, respectively).
Comment: Relatively early days in this study of a slow-burn disease, and even in the monitoring group over half undergone surgery.
