About Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland

The Association was established in 1920 and has a long history of providing information, advice, opportunities for further education and networking for its members. It provides leadership in general and emergency surgery and collates sub-specialist knowledge from 12 sister organisations who comprise modern general surgery.

The founding objectives of the Association, were twofold – the advancement of the science and art of surgery and the promotion of friendship amongst surgeons; these objectives remain the same today. ASGBI actively pursues inclusive policies.

Annual congress

ASGBI’s annual International Surgical Congress is held in Spring. It promises to be an exciting blend of educational symposiums on topics covering the general surgery spectrum such as Emergency General Surgery, Trauma, Research, Sustainable Surgery, Motivation, Training and Wellbeing.  Our Director of Scientific Programme, curates a diverse mix of sessions designed to excite, challenge and collaborate with our sister associations within General Surgery. The ASGBI International Surgical Congress presents an incredible opportunity for delegates to learn and network with their fellow colleagues.
