Robotic versus laparoscopic ventral hernia repair. Two-year results from a prospective, multicenter, blinded randomized clinical trial.

Dhanani NH, Lyons NB, Olavarria OA, Bernardi K, Holihan JL, Shah SK et al.

Ann Surg 2023; 278: 161-165.

A total of 101 patients completed one year follow-up. Hernia recurrence rates were similar: robotic 4 per cent, laparoscopic 13 per cent, P=0.12. More patients in the laparoscopic group needed reoperation: 11 per cent versus none, P=0.019.

Comment: Small trial, so little to learn.
