Of 368 included patients, those who underwent prehabilitation had lower rate of minor postoperative complications (17.2 versus 28.7 per cent, P=0.01) and medical complications (8.3 versus 16.9 per cent, P=0.02). The prehabilitation group demonstrated increased functional capacity before surgery when compared to baseline, as demonstrated by an average of 24-metre increase in the 6-minute walk test change (P<0.001).
Comment: This RCT extends prehabilitation evidence to frail older patients on a background of ERAS care, with benefits in short-term morbidity and function.
