Some 362 patients were included, and the 5-year overall survival was similar between groups (hazard ratio 0.71, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.51 to 0.97), confirming non-inferiority. Conversion to open surgery and postoperative complication rates were comparable between groups.
Comment: Safety of robotic surgery extends to esophagectomy.
