Of 18 trials involving 95,521 patients, four trials testing context-specific interventions showed a significant reduction in mortality within 90 days of surgery. Adherence to interventions were generally high and similar between simple and complex interventions (93.6 versus 96.8 per cent). Four studies had low risk of bias.
Comment: High-quality evidence supporting interventions to reduce postoperative mortality in LMICs remains limited.
