Of 302 patients, those in the noise isolation group had lower incidence of moderate-to-severe pain (relative risk 0.47, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.33 to 0.65, P<0.001) within 24 hours after surgery, and lower analgesic requirement in the 24-h and 48-h periods after surgery.
Comment: Noise isolation is a simple, low-cost, non-invasive intervention that may complement multimodal analgesic strategies.
