Adjustable intragastric balloon for treatment of obesity: a multicentre, open-label, randomised clinical trial.

This multicentre study included 288 patients randomized to lifestyle intervention with additional intragastric balloon therapy. After 32 weeks, mean total bodyweight loss was greater in the balloon group: 15 versus 3.3 per cent (P,0.0001). Some 17 per cent of balloons were removed for intolerance.

Comment: This is now an old technology that has never really taken off.
