Some 288 patients were included, and on postoperative day 30, the minimally invasive group averaged 659 more daily steps (95 per cent confidence interval 79 to 1240, P=0.03), 22 more active minutes (3 to 40, P=0.03), and 9 ms higher heart-rate variability (2 to 15, P=0.006) than the open group, with higher heart-rate variability persisting to day 90 even as step counts converged.
Comment: Objective wearable data show a modest but sustained recovery edge favouring the minimally invasive approach.
