BJS Academy is pleased to announce the next BJS Academy Virtual Journal Club, held in partnership with the Roux Group, bringing together trainees, clinicians and researchers for an evening of critical appraisal, discussion and debate around two recently published surgical oncology studies.
The session will take place on Wednesday, 19 August at 20:00 BST, with a focus on research relevant to upper gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.
Two papers published in BJS and BJS Open will be discussed:
The papers will be presented by Miss Hollie Clements, Roux Group OG Lead, and Mr Kareem Elsamani, Roux Group HPB Lead.
Following the presentations, Ms Jessie Elliott, Upper GI Surgeon at Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute, Dublin, and Mr Alex Gordon-Weeks, Consultant HPB and Liver Transplant Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will join the session as senior consultant discussants.
The discussion will explore the findings and methodology of each study, their clinical relevance, and the implications for contemporary surgical practice. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with the speakers and contribute questions during the session.
The BJS Academy Virtual Journal Club is designed to support critical appraisal, evidence-based practice and professional development, while creating opportunities for discussion and collaboration across the international surgical community.
