Perianal application of glyceryl trinitrate ointment versus tocopherol acetate ointment in the treatment of chronic anal fissure: a randomized clinical trial.

Use of tocopherol ointment improved pain scores after eight weeks (P=0.018) in this study that included 160 patients. It also reduced recurrence rates after 16 weeks: 2.9 versus 13.2 per cent, P=0.031.
