Br J Surg 2023; 110: 1785-1792.
The addition of neuromuscular electrical stimulation did not improve walking distance over standard care (medical therapy and supervised exercise therapy) after three months in this study that included 160 patients with claudication. It did have a beneficial effect on mild claudication.
Comment: Exercise therapy remains the best treatment for claudication.
