Neoadjuvant intensity modulated radiotherapy for a single and small (≤5 cm) hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma predicted to have high risks of microvascular invasion: a randomized clinical trial.

 Wei X, Jiang Y, Feng S, Lu C, Huo L, Zhou B et al.

Int J Surg 2023; 109: 3052-3060.

Sixty patients were included. The response rate after radiotherapy was 25 per cent. After median follow-up of 68 months. Five-year disease-free survival rates were similar: 56.3 per cent after radiotherapy versus 45.7 per cent after surgery alone, P=0.448.

Comment: this study was too small to make definite conclusions, but the response rate to radiotherapy was pretty low.
